Sexual violence is a common problem worldwide. Half of all women and 20% of men have ever experienced sexual violence. The negative consequences of this violence are numerous. Many victims do not seek help or report to the police, which causes perpetrators to act with impunity. A Centre for Sexual Violence ‘Gelderland-Zuid en -Midden’ (CSG-GZM) was launched in 2012, with its main aim to bundle the care for victims in one centre and, in this way, provide better care for the victims. As mentioned above, victims experience a high threshold in looking for help and many victims do not report to the police. To get a profile of the population of the CSG-GZM and gain insight in reporting rates and the factors that may influence these reporting rates, care could be improved and made more tailored within the centre.
This is an observational cohort study which includes all victims of the CSG-GZM from January 2016 till January 2019 (N=206). These are men and women of all ages who are victims of recent (≤8 days) sexual violence and presented to the CSG-GZM. Data has been collected from medical, police and follow-up care files of the victims and made anonymous.
The data will be analysed in SPSS, using logistic regression analyses to assess the relation of the above characteristics with reporting to the police.
